A Young Girl's Dream

4-3-90

A young girl dreamed

Her parents didn't

the purpose of life was to get to college,

Study for a career,

Make a living.

No mention of how to be happy

Only reinforcement to be the best.

She went through school,

Still believing in her dreams,

A "bright" student

She loved art

Music, drawing, reading, writing

Favorite classes.

Reality set in

"There's no future career for you in the arts, dear,"

"you can't live off what little money you make."

Her dreams start to shatter

She became a robot

Took "real" classes so she could get

A "sensible" job- a teacher

The dreams have been rekindled

She wants to be a teacher

Encouraging children to believe in their dreams

Maybe it will make a difference someday.

A young girl dreamed

The dreams were nurtured

She is happy...
