The One I Can't Forget

9-6-92

You shut me out

Even though I feel that

My past is speckled

With an array of lovers

But there will always be that

That one I can't forget.

The one who hurt deep down,

And won't go away.

The pain is harder than

Anything I've known.

I've tried

So hard

To put it in the past

To move ahead.

I still love that one,

That one I can't forget.

Every time I hear that name-

I turn around and hope,

But it isn't.

Can't you see?

I just want to share it with you.

Maybe that'll make it hurt a little less.

That one I can't forget

Is part of my heart.

My heart

That wonderful little piece of me

So small,

But the pain it gives is

IMMENSE.

Give in

Let it wash over me

Or push ahead of it.

You go one way,

I go the other.

No middle ground.

Man, you have to let go.

It's not easy to accept, but

It's over.

That one ISN'T coming back.
