A LIGHT IN THE FOREST

Being led by a single light
Through the black forest branches.
I come with you late at night,
To see the peace within us both.
A silence falls over us;
We listen to the forest talk.
It speaks to our souls, deep, deep in.
And fills our hearts with song.

Here, here I can see your eyes
And not turn away.
I can hold your hand and feel the universe
Surround me.
Your eyes speak of things that one day
I will understand.
You are my teacher.
I am your student.
I will never know everything you are teaching.

Finishing with the lesson,
I look around.
The moon seems bright,
Lighting the path you lead me along.
We come to an opening in the canopy.
The water now laps at our feet.
A single pair of birds sit on the lake,
Resting.
You circle my shoulders with your arm
and we watch a while.
This, this is what a friend does
For another.
