Abandoned Bike
9-9-92
Gray September day,
and the rain falls steadily.
A lone bike stands,
Abandoned.
Covered with droplets of its baptism.
Bent frame, torn seat cover,
Rust speckled paint.
Reminds me of a day so long ago,
A time that was so innocent.
A girl playing in the rain with her bike.
Never minding the traffic,
until it was too late,
And her bike fell victim to speed
And damp pavement.
This lone bike on a bike rack outside my window,
Serves as a reminder of how things have changed,
And they will never be the same.
