Dead Slinky

9-2-92

On September 5th

Sarah got a Slinky.

Just a coil of metal,

It enthralled her.

It moved, undulating and arcing,

Reflecting light,

Making a shing-shing noise.

Never stopped playing with it.

Today,

I beheld it, sprawled in the corner.

Forgotten among the other broken toys.

She had played with it so much,

Loved it so much,

That it had become freed from its form,

A piece of metallic garbage.

I picked it up carefully and carried the broken coils from her room.

She never mentioned it again.
