Deck of Thoughts

12/5/95

Her thoughts laid clear before her

Like a hand of cards

A pair here, an ace there

But no face cards.

She looked at what she had,

And what she could be picking up from the deck.

Was it better to take from the unturned pile,

or the discards?

She debated and mulled over her decision.

Finally she decided to go with the unturned deck.

As she placed the card in her hand, she smiled.

It wouldn't win her the game,

But she wouldn't lose either.

She laid out her hand for the rest to see.

They applauded her efforts,

And she kept her chips until the next hand.

Then she would risk it all again.
