SHE

date unknown

The wolf looked up at the fair maiden and steed and sensed the fear in her eyes. The white stallion was rearing, but She held him firm, in hope that the wolf would leave. But, he had stood his ground, panting - as if tired from running. How long had he followed her, she wondered. He had just suddenly appeared, running alongside her galloping horse.

She had been out for her afternoon ride, after being cautioned by Lord Meumett that there was a wolf in the hills that had been killing the villagers' farm animals. She had laughed it off, knowing that her steed Mirage, was the fastest in the land, and even if the wolf should appear, Mirage could outrun it without breaking a sweat.

But now She was not so sure. She could tell that Mirage was getting more nervous, and could at any time, shy her off his back and right into the wolf's path. Thank goodness her cousin, the Duke of Niscissus, had taught her to ride so well! He had also been the one to give her Mirage. When his royal stallion had been mated, and the foals had been trained, he had let her - at the tender age of eleven, choose her favorite. As soon as She had laid eyes on Mirage it was love. She had brought him up in the royal stables and when they went riding across the countryside, it was magic. They were one.

As the wolf paced around Mirage She felt that, oddly enough, the wolf wasn't there to hurt her, or her steed. It wasn't making any sense though, unless the wolf had been charmed by someone, or something. But that was unlikely, as the wolf did not act tame, but rather wild in his actions.

She also sensed that the wolf was trying to tell her something, but couldn't find a way that She would understand.
